Our Soap of the Month Membership is inspired by the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) model— where people pay their farmer at the beginning of the season or in monthly payments for a share of what the farms produce, usually in the form of a weekly box of farm fresh, local produce.  This way, the farmer has the financial resources up front to do their good work in the world, and the customers get fresh, tasty food throughout the season while feeling good that they are supporting their neighbors and/or small scale sustainable agriculture.  Win-win!

Similarly, with a Soap of the Month membership, you get a monthly delivery of high quality, handcrafted soap (and other goodies), and get to support a woman-owned, family- run, small business dedicated to using our skills and talents for hand crafting earth and people-friendly creations.  This allows us to have a steady income we can count on month to month, and focus on creating the best soaps, sundries, and services we know how.  

Each month you will receive two special bars of soap that are often not otherwise available — created specially for this membership.  Many of our membership soaps:

• Are seasonal, based on botanicals locally gathered or grown in season such as dandelions, cucumber, sage, cedar, spruce tips, comfrey, plantain, etc. that contribute natural color, luxurious lather, skin-soothing benefits, and subtle scents,

• Celebrate the season with color and scent themes such as "Ripple"- a gorgeous blue gradient color (with plant colorants) water-themed soap, Campfire soap, Gardener soap, Sunny Bastille, Harvest bars, Holiday spice, Whiteout Winter soap, etc.,

• Or are just good old fashioned soaps or soaps that have been best sellers for us over the years, such as Honey Oat, Coffee Scrub, Windsor, Bay Rum, Orange Spice, Ancient Spice, Deep Woods, Lavender, Lemongrass, Rose Medley, and more.

Some are formulated to be especially soothing for sensitive or troubled skin, such as Castile (100% olive oil base), Soothing soap (infused with plantain, comfrey, marshmallow root, and aloe), and others.

• Our soaps are colored naturally by their oil base as well as botanicals and sometimes natural clays (such as french green facial clay).  They are either scent free or scented only with pure essential oils.   We NEVER use synthetic fragrances, colorants, micas, oxides, dyes, detergents, ultramarines, pre-manufactured bases (i.e. melt and pour soap), etc.  Most of our ingredients are food grade and many are locally, responsibly gathered or grown.  Still have questions about our ingredients?  Please feel free to contact us and ask!

• All our soaps are formulated to be mild and good for those with sensitive skin, chemical sensitivities (scent free bars), and skin concerns (such as eczema, dryness, psoriasis, etc.). While we do make some pure essential oil scented products, many of our soaps, salves, etc. are scent free — for those who are sensitive to any scents, who just prefer scent free products, or who simply enjoy the natural smell of scent free skin care.  If you prefer to only receive scent free products, please select that option in the drop down menu when you sign up.

• We formulate our soaps to have luxurious lathers, which to us means: quick and easy to lather up even in hard water; abundant bubbles; lather that is rich, creamy, long lasting and soft and silky smooth; rinses clean without being drying. We also formulate our soaps and cure them so they are long-lasting as long as they are kept out of a pool of standing water or steady stream of shower water regularly (as all handmade soaps must be if they are to last longer). 

We make our soaps and other products with our own hands in lovingly crafted small batches on our homestead in northern Wisconsin, in our mostly passive-solar small home.  We love what we do and where we live and try to make that shine through in what we make for you, using as few resources as responsibly as possible in the process.

We are dedicated to being as close to zero waste packaging as possible, and NEVER use plastic nor styrafoam in our labels or packaging.  We adhere to the three R's guidelines — we first try to reduce and simplify our labels and packaging (i.e. sizing shipping boxes to not need lots of filler padding, for example); try to reuse things like paper (last year's garden catalog), or fabric (clean flannel shirt cordage); and use recycled materials whenever possible (and recycle everything we can).

We use wood soap molds (made from reclaimed wood from building our own house) with reusable liners (instead of lining with paper or plastic that gets thrown out after one use), and use reusable mats and/or fabric for cutting and curing the bars (again, instead of one-use paper). We use kraft and wax paper, cotton and other natural fibers/fabrics, glass jars, etc. whenever necessary to avoid further additions of plastic and synthetic fibers to our world.
